Recent Site Updates

What's changed on OpenRoleplaying.org recently? Here's a list of most of what we've been up to starting from the most recent change.

Special Gary Gygax, R.I.P.

More information here. For us Old School Gamers, he shaped our world and gave us a "life" in our youth. While your recent work wasn't spectacular, you will be missed. (posted by BlackFog on March 4, 2008)

Special Line Upgrade

(Not sure who reads these anymore, but...) On 11 March 2008, we will be transitioning to new, faster Internet service. There may be some unexpected downtime while things are moved and DNS entries are updated. (posted by BlackFog on March 4, 2008)

Special Site Availability

The server hosting ORP is experiencing some hardware difficulties. The site may be down at various times over the next few days to facilitate repairs. (posted by BlackFog on October 12, 2007)

Community Stories Archived

I've cleaned up the Storyboard a bit by removing some old, inactive stories. (posted by BlackFog on October 12, 2007)

Special May Spammer Rot in Hell

(Can we tell I'm getting sick of this?) I've now had to lock down the comments on articles. They were apparently taken over by spambots. Needless to say, I'm getting kinda fed up with this. If anyone spots any more problems, please let me know ASAP. (posted by BlackFog on June 3, 2007)

Special Spambots, Take II

New users are now required to verify they are a human being through an image validation process.

Additionally, the ORP Chat is no longer available as there is no way to prevent the spambots easily (sadly, they seem to be posting directly to the chat somehow). I wanted to make it humans only like new users, but that wasn't enough. So, you can thank the turds on the Internet who felt the need to spam the Chat for its demise. (posted by BlackFog on April 13, 2007)

Special Spam Users

I've also noticed an increase in spam-users on the site. If this continues, I may be forced to lock down new users temporarily until I can put in additional site security there, as well (likely e-mail validation and other protections). However, as the site is primarily running itself these days, continued abuse like this may force me to reconsider leaving it up. I know this means nothing to the spammers, but I thought I'd just put that out there. (posted by BlackFog on April 10, 2007)

Special Chat Temporarily Disabled

Site's not as active as it used to be, but I just noticed that the Chat was taken over by spambots. As such, the Chat has been disabled until I can beef up the security and prevent that from happening. Sorry. (posted by BlackFog on April 10, 2007)

Special We're Back!

After much work building and configuring the new server, ORP is now back up and available. Thanks to anyone who stuck with us while we got everything back up and working. (posted by BlackFog on June 25, 2006)

Special Recent and Future Down Time

ORP's server has been suffering from intermittent hardware problems. The outage for the last few days was related (exascerbated by a severe thunderstorm). A new server is on the way. Expect potential down time in the future while this is configured and brought on line. Sorry for any inconvenience. (posted by BlackFog on June 3, 2006)

Articles "New" Review!

Found a review that's been in the queue for a bit: Quad Winds by Ishpeck. Sorry for the delay. (posted by BlackFog on April 28, 2006)

Community No More Gameboard

The ORP Gameboard is no longer a site feature. It has never been used for what it was meant to be (a place to run play-by-post RPGs) and it hasn't had anything resembling a quality game for some time. Since it appears that the community wants nothing more than the Storyboard that's what remains. The Gameboard is still accessible via search engines and bookmarked links. (posted by BlackFog on October 17, 2005)

General Search Box

I've added a search box to the bottom of the home page. Basically just runs a search for ORP pages through Google, but it's a start. If there's a call for it, I can make it more ubiquitous throughout the site. (posted by BlackFog on September 30, 2005)

Special We're Back

After much pain and anguish we finally got our new ISP to provision our new service and we're back up and (apparently) operational as of 8 August 2005. Thanks for hanging in there while we were down. (posted by BlackFog on August 26, 2005)

Articles Some New Reviews

Two reviews up today: First, a review of the 3rd Edition of L5R called Blegend of the Blive Blings by Ishpeck. Second, a review of Neiyar: Land of Heaven and the Abyss from an anonymous source. Happy reading. (posted by BlackFog on July 11, 2005)

Articles New Review - Star Thugs

We have a new review up today, a review of Star Thugs has been posted by Ishpeck. Although creatively titled Wizzing Out of Air Locks, if you were ever a fan of the old BBS game Trade Wars, you should give this a look. (posted by BlackFog on February 18, 2005)

Articles New Review - The Verdant World: a handbook to the green

Another product review by the Review Master, Kinslayer. This time, it's a review of The Verdant World: a handbook to the green. (posted by BlackFog on February 12, 2005)

Articles New Review - Unorthodox Barbarians

The Review Master himself, Kinslayer, has just put up a review of Unorthodox Barbarians. More are coming in the future from what I've been told. (posted by BlackFog on January 12, 2005)

Articles New Review: Icar

Kinslayer has posted a review of Icar in the Reviews section. Word has it there are more on the way... (posted by BlackFog on January 4, 2005)

Community Gameboard Topics

If you plan on starting a new game on the Gameboard please either include a Cover/Intro page (there's a feature that handles this once you start the game) or include some idea of what the game is about in the first post. I've been very lax in enforcement of the Gameboard Rules and Guidelines, but please try to follow them. Thank you. (posted by BlackFog on December 1, 2004)
